Introduction

장욱진 고택은 우리나라 서양화 1세대인 장욱진(1917~1990) 화백이 1986년부터 1990년 작고할 때까지 거주하며 작품 활동을 한 곳이다. 고택은 조선시대 말기 경기도 전통 민가의 튼 ㅁ자 형태로, 안채와 사랑채, 광으로 구성되어 있다. 장 화백이 직접 수리해 작업실과 거주 공간으로 사용했으며, 경내에는 일부 한옥을 개조한 찻집 ‘집운헌’이 있다. 한옥은 현재 유족들이 설립한 장욱진미술문화재단에서 관리하고 있다. 한옥 뒤편에는 약 50평 규모의 2층 양옥이 있으며, 이는 장 화백이 1953년 작품 ‘자동차가 있는 풍경’에 그린 벽돌집을 바탕으로 직접 설계해 지은 건물로, 현재는 전시실로 사용되고 있다.
