Hyeongjebong is a 448m high peak located on the southern side of Gwanggyosan, spanning Suwon, Yongin, and Uiwang. It is a 2 to 4-hour round-trip hiking course close to the city, easy for beginners, and always crowded with hikers. Gwanggyosan, designated as the 2nd scenic site among Yongin's 8 sights, is densely forested, allowing hikers to avoid sunlight even in summer and enjoy forest bathing. It is famous for beautiful snow scenes and especially for the Cheonnyeon Su Spring, known for its good water taste, located on the route to Hyeongjebong. The peak can be accessed from both Yongin and Suwon sides. The Yongin route typically starts from the grave of Master Jogwangjo (Sanghyeon-dong) → Maebong Spring → Beodeulchi Pass → Cheonnyeon Spring → Hyeongjebong; it is 5.3km long and takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, making it the longest route. With an average slope of 17°, it is generally not difficult, although the Beodeulchi Pass to Cheonnyeon Spring section has a gentler 7° slope, which hikers seeking dynamic treks might find a bit boring. The Suwon route typically starts at Kyonggi University / Gwanggyo Park → Firefly Restroom → Cheonnyeon Su Spring → Baeknyeon Su Peak → Hyeongjebong; it covers 3.4km and takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, making it a shorter route. It is an easy course even for upper elementary children, equipped with a large parking lot and restroom, making it the most popular trail to the peak. Both routes converge at Cheonnyeon Su Spring. From Baeknyeon Su to the Hyeongjebong summit, hikers can enjoy an expansive panoramic view. For those with more energy, it is possible to continue from Hyeongjebong (448m) to Birobong (490m) and finally to Sirubong (585m), the main peak of Gwanggyosan. The large public Gwanggyo parking lot in Suwon’s Gwanggyo Reservoir and Gwanggyo Park, and the Kyonggi University Suwon campus parking lot are directly connected to the trailheads, making the Suwon side the most common starting point. The Firefly Restroom at the trail entrance is the last restroom before the actual hike begins, so hikers should use it beforehand.
