The old house and tomb of Teacher Kim Jeonghui are the residence and burial site of Chusa Kim Jeonghui (1786–1856), a Confucian scholar, epigrapher, calligrapher, and historian of the late Joseon Dynasty, designated as Yesan-gun's third scenic spot. Kim Jeonghui studied under Park Jega (1750–1805), a member of the Northern Learning faction, and, influenced by Qing dynasty epigraphy, pursued realistic and factual scholarship. At age 24, he studied in Qing China, learning epigraphy and calligraphy styles. In 1816 (16th year of King Sunjo), he revealed the identity of the Jinheungwang steles on Bukhansan Mountain in Seoul. In 1819 (19th year of King Sunjo), he passed the civil service exam and held various official positions including Daesaseong of Sungkyunkwan. He completed his unique calligraphy style, known as Chusa style, and left many artworks. The old house's buildings are arranged longitudinally east to west; the main quarters are on the west side and the servant quarters, lower in height, lie separately on the east. Kim Jeonghui's tomb lies about 100 meters from the old house, with a memorial stone placed at the front and a stele beside it. Additionally, the Chusa Memorial Hall is built on site, exhibiting Kim Jeonghui-related artifacts designated as Chungcheongnam-do Tangible Cultural Property. The Chusa Experience Hall offers traditional cultural activities including writing in the Chusa calligraphy style, drawing and coloring orchids and Sehando paintings, paper folding, rubbing replicas, and decorating butterfly fans and round fans.
In front of Yesan Sapgyo Station stands Hanil Restaurant, a soup with ox head meat specialty with about 70 years of tradition. This restaurant boils broth in a cauldron all day, and when a customer orders, serves it in a bowl topped with meat and green onions. The broth is rated well for being refreshing rather than spicy as it looks. The soup contains a lot of high-quality meat, including domestic Korean beef cow's head meat, abomasum (fourth stomach), lungs, and omasum (third stomach). Due to its reputation, it has been featured on several broadcasts, and besides the soup, the restaurant also offers noodles and boiled pork slices. Originally located near Sapgyo Market in Sapgyo-eup, it recently moved to the current location with a clean, spacious tiled house and parking lot. It is also conveniently accessible by public transportation, being a 10-minute walk from Janghang Line Sapgyo Station. Nearby attractions include Sapgyo Station, Sapgyo Market, Deoksan Hot Springs, Chung Ui-sa (Memorial site of patriot Yun Bong-gil), and Yedang Reservoir, allowing for combined sightseeing.
