사도는 본도와 간도, 시루섬, 중도, 증도, 장사도, 나끝, 연목 등 7개 섬으로 이루어져 있다. 해마다 음력 정월 대보름, 2월 영등일 등 두세 차례에 걸쳐 2∼3일 동안 "물 갈라짐" (일명 모세의 기적)이 열리면 길이 1.5km, 폭 30m의 길이 생겨나 일곱 개의 섬들이 'ㄷ'자형으로 연결되는 장관이 연출된다. 그뿐만 아니라 본섬의 선착장에서 20분간 해변도로를 따라 걸어 들어가면 마주치는 중도의 기암들도 색다른 볼거리를 제공한다.

화도(花島)는 꽃섬을 한자로 표기한 땅이름이다. 웃꽃섬은 상화도, 아랫꽃섬을 하화도라고 한다. 하화도 꽃섬길은 섬을 한 바퀴 도는 둘레길이다.

Since the Baekyadaegyo Bridge was installed on April 14, 2005, allowing vehicle access, the number of tourists and anglers has increased. Development of the Huayang district, including Yeosu Ocean Resort, is planned, so many more tourists are expected to visit in the future. Baekyado (白也島) is a relatively small island with an area of 3.08㎢. From a distance, it was called Baehodo because it looked like a tiger holding its cub, but it was renamed Baekyado when Dolsan-gun was established in 1896. Baekyado Lighthouse was first built on December 10, 1928, as a white quadrangular reinforced concrete structure 8.8m high, and on November 26, 1983, it was upgraded to the current 11.1m-high white cylindrical reinforced concrete structure. The lighthouse light is equipped with a domestically developed medium-sized light that can be seen from 35 km offshore, serving as a safe guide for ships traveling between Yeosu and Naro Island. Until recently, access to Baekyado was by ferry from Hwajeong-myeon Hitdo landing in Yeosu-si, but since April 14, 2005, the Baekyadaegyo Bridge has connected the island to the land, allowing easy access by car. The lighthouse area is beautified by blue grass and sculptures personally made and well arranged by the lighthouse staff.
