Yeongdong Gahakru is a pavilion located in front of Hwanggan Hyanggyo. This pavilion was a place to enjoy the natural scenery and was built by Hacheom, the Hwanggan governor, in the 2nd year of King Taejo of Joseon (1393). It was burned down during the Imjin War (1592) but was rebuilt and repaired several times. The name Gahakru was given by Namgong, the Governor of Gyeongsang-do, who said it looked like a crane floating on the breeze. It is a one-story building with four bays in the front and four bays on the side, featuring a roof with an eight-sided paljak style. With only pillars and railings, it is open on all sides and feels refreshing.

Hwanggan Hyanggyo was originally established on a hill behind the village in the 3rd year of King Taejo (1394), but it was moved inside an earthen-walled fortress in the 7th year of King Hyeonjong (1666), and underwent repairs in the 28th year of King Yeongjo (1752) and the 9th year of King Gojong (1872). The currently remaining buildings include Daeseongjeon, Myeongryundang, and Gojiksa as annex buildings, arranged in a Jeonhak-humyo layout with the front side serving as the learning space and the rear side as the ritual space. Myeongryundang was the lecture hall where students studied, consisting of 5 kan in the front and 2 kan on the side, with a decorative paljak roof shaped like the Korean character for 'eight' (팔). Daeseongjeon is the ritual space enshrining Confucius and other sages, sized 3 kan front by 2 kan side, with a roof in a matbae style shaped like the human character (인). The lotus patterns carved on the foundation stones suggest a fusion of temple architectural style with pavilion and residential designs. During the Joseon Dynasty, the state supported teaching students here, but after the Gabo Reform (1894), its educational function ceased, and only rituals are held in spring and autumn. The books kept here are valuable materials for research on local history.
