Manisan⛰️ 472 m

Introduction

[Outstanding Rocky Beauty and the Best Observatory] It is the highest mountain on Ganghwa Island, the largest island in Gyeonggi Province. According to legend, Dangun Wanggeom built Chamseongdan (Historic Site No. 136) on the middle of its three peaks to perform sky rituals and pray for the peace of Gojoseon. A few years ago, geomancers identified Manisan as the place with the strongest energy. The legend in the "Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam" suggests that while the mountain is called Manisan, it is also referred to as Marisan. Designated as a national tourist site in 1977, it has long been a famous scenic spot due to the fame of Chamseongdan. With its outstanding rocky beauty and meeting the second condition of a famous mountain by Lee Jung-hwan—"being adjacent to a large sea"—its views are unparalleled. The sea between Yeomha and Seokmodo resembles a river, the sea between Jangbongdo is like a lake, and the vast ocean to the west opens the chest wide. Jeongsusa Temple, founded by Heojeong Seonsa in the 8th year of Queen Seondeok's reign of Silla (639 AD), is located on the mountain's foothills, making it a good cultural heritage site to visit. Coastal forts, guard posts, and batteries can also be explored as national defense cultural assets.
