The Yeongdong area harmonizes the rugged mountain ranges of Sobaek and Noryeong, with the Geum River flowing along the mountain foothills at the border of three provinces. This market, held every five days, functions as a rural marketplace where prices form according to the demand and supply of goods. The region produces many specialties such as dried persimmons, shiitake mushrooms, grapes, and apples, and is known as the home of persimmons, evidenced by 2,000 persimmon trees lining the streets. In Chungbuk Yeongdong, there are six markets: Yeongdong Market, Yongsan Market, Hwanggan Market, Chupungnyeong Market, Sangchon Market, and Haksan Market. Among them, Yeongdong Market is the largest, held at the Yeongdong Traditional Market alongside a permanent market, on dates ending with 4 and 9 (4, 9, 14, 19, 24, 29). Passing through colorful beautiful gates characteristic of Rainbow Yeongdong, visitors find fresh fruit stores and market-exclusive affordable fresh vegetables and fruits. Yeongdong, known as the fruit capital, is famous for high sugar content in its fruits due to the large temperature differences in its mountainous terrain from Baekdudaegan Chupungnyeong to Sangchon. The market offers various daily necessities and delicious foods, especially the popular freshwater snail soup rice, good for bone health and anemia. Yeongdong Market is accessible within a 10-minute distance from Yeongdong Station and near Yeongdong Wine Tunnel, allowing visitors to enjoy both.
