At the northwest point of Hwanggan, Wollyubong Peak stands tall, and the exquisite mountain scenery around its base is called Hancheon Palgyeong. Hancheon Palgyeong consists of eight scenic spots including the first, Wollyubong, as well as Sagunbong, Sanyangbyeok, Yongyeondae, Naengcheonjeong, Hwahaenak, Cheonghakgul, and Beopjonam, most of which refer to various views of Wollyubong. The first site, Wollyubong, features a steep cliff mountain below which the clear waters of Chogangcheon upstream flow, creating a beautiful landscape. Its name means "the peak where the moon lingers," and the moonlit night scenery is famously beautiful. Scholar Song Si-yeol of the Uam school once stayed here, built a small pavilion, and studied; beneath Wollyubong are Hancheonjeongsa, built in his honor, and a memorial stele for Yeongdong Song Uam. In spring, the area is dyed red with azaleas and rhododendrons, attracting many visitors, and in autumn, the fall foliage, hiking, and the Wollyubong trail with its varied views and atmospheres make it a popular destination.
Sanmak Winery is a cultural space where wine and art come together. The owner, originally from Seoul, moved to the countryside to farm grapes and studied wine before opening the winery. It is a tourist spot where visitors can spend time drinking wine in a quiet mountain valley, healing both body and mind in nature. Various experiences are offered, including making fans and keychains, garden parties combined with winery and gallery tours, and custom wine orders. Yeongdong in Chungbuk has ideal conditions for grape farming, making wineries easy to find. Along with the Yeongdong Wine Tunnel, there are over 40 family-run wineries (grape wine breweries) offering farm experience winery tours. Visiting nearby wineries together will provide a special travel experience.
Yeongdong Wine Tunnel, located in Yeongdong-gun Rainbow Healing Tourist Site, is a 420-meter-long tunnel where visitors can rest while exploring the history of wine. It includes facilities such as a space displaying and selling Yeongdong’s farmhouse wines, a wine tasting room, an experience center, a restaurant, and a cultural performance hall, making it a new landmark of Yeongdong. The gate sculpture is a beautiful symbol welcoming visitors to the grape wine tunnel. Inside the tunnel, there are 10 theme zones: vineyard travel, wine culture center, Yeongdong wine hall, world wine hall, wine in movies, mirrored room, wine experience center, fantasy tunnel, event hall, and photo zone. It shines with theme colors of 10 globally famous grape-producing countries and provides varied information on grape cultivation and varieties. The tunnel introduces the history of grapes and wine alongside ancient human civilization, the global spread of beloved wines, and Yeongdong, the mecca of grape wine in South Korea. There are photo zones and sensory experience spaces where visitors can see, hear, learn, taste, and feel. The fantasy tunnel serves as the exit path, leaving visitors with a memorable impression and desire to return. Additionally, a tunnel entrance dug by forced labor during Japanese colonial rule for munitions storage was discovered during the wine tunnel construction and is preserved. Visitors can also see a wine storage area with thousands of bottles and a huge oak barrel.
