[Mountain of dark blue rock] Gamak Mountain spans Jeokseong-myeon in Paju City, Nam-myeon in Yangju County, and Jeongok-eup in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province. According to the 'San-gyeong-pyo', it is connected to Hangangbong of the Hanbuk Jeongmaek range, forming its branch. Traditionally, along with Songak Mountain in Kaesong, Hwaak Mountain in Gapyeong, Gwanak Mountain in Gwacheon, and Unak Mountain in Pocheon, it has been known as one of the five great mountains of Gyeonggi, though it was not widely known to the general public. Due to its proximity to the Demilitarized Zone, it was designated a no-entry area but restrictions have been somewhat eased in recent years. However, hiking trails remain limited. Trails accessible for hiking around the summit include routes from Beomryunsa, Sinam-ri, and Wondang-ri. There were four temples: Gamaksa, Ungyesa, Beomryunsa, and Unrimsa, but currently only Beomryunsa remains, rebuilt in 1970 on the site of the old Ungyesa. Below Janggunbong Peak is the Im Ggeokjeong Cave, where the righteous outlaw Im Ggeokjeong hid from government troops during the reign of King Myeongjong of Joseon. During the Korean War, it was a famous battleground; in Seolmari Valley, there are memorials for the British Army and the Korean Patriotic Corps.
The starting point is Uijeongbu. From Uijeongbu, city bus number 25 runs every 15 minutes to Jeokseong. National Road 37 connects Jeokseong to Jeokseong Samgeori, and Provincial Road 323 leads to the entrance of Beomryunsa Temple.
