Yanggu Central Market is the only permanent market in Yanggu-gun, located in the city center and serving as the main commercial hub for trading local specialties and daily necessities. Here, various local agricultural products such as honey, gomchwi (Ligularia), and dried radish greens, as well as clothing, food, and manufactured goods, are sold. It has become a popular spot for visitors and tourists. Among the nine markets established during the Japanese colonial period, only Central Market and Oiljang remain; this is related to the area's history of being incorporated into northern territory after liberation and then restored after the Korean War. Yanggu Oiljang is a traditional market that has existed since before the Joseon Dynasty, actively trading mountain vegetables like gomchwi, deodeok (Codonopsis lanceolata), and doraji (balloon flower root), along with specialties from across the country. Yanggu is currently known as the nation's top producer of gomchwi and plays a key role in leading the local economy alongside nearby tourist attractions such as Dutayeon, Punch Bowl, Park Soo-keun Art Museum, and the National Center for the Country's Longitude Observatory.
