General Chusu Gyeong lived during the reign of the Ming Dynasty's Emperor Shenzong. His courtesy name was Cheongha and his pen name was Sesimdang. Born in Qixingtong, Wuhengun, Shengdexian, Guizhou Province, Ming Dynasty, he showed exceptional talent from a young age and excelled in both civil and military arts. At 16, he passed the civil service examination, and in 1591 (the 24th year of Seonjo's reign), he was appointed as a military commissioner of the Ming Dynasty. During the Japanese invasions of Korea in 1592, he petitioned Emperor Shenzong to send reinforcements under General Li Rusong and personally led 5,000 troops along with his five sons to aid Korea. Starting with the Battle of Gwaksan in February 1593, he contributed significantly to recapturing Pyongyang, Kaesong, and Seoul. In 1597, during the Jeongyu War, he fought in the Battle of Namwon and was severely wounded at the Battle of Jeonju, where he protected the Jeonju archive until the end. When Ming soldiers returned, he and his five sons chose to remain in Chudong, Bongdong-eup, Wanju-gun, where they lived out their days. The village name 'Chudong' originated because of General Chusu Gyeong. The court posthumously honored him with the title Chungjanggong and appointed him Hoseong Gongshin and Wansan Buwongun for his merits. The stele in front of his grave was newly erected in 1973 because the original was destroyed during the Japanese occupation. The building called Bongyangje, which housed memorials, was demolished, with only its foundation stones and main gate remaining. In November 2004, the damaged burial site was restored through the efforts of his descendants, and Wanju-gun built a new memorial stele and shrine Bongyangsa.
