화암사우화루는 불명산 자락 화암사에 있는 조선시대 건축물이다. 우화루는 화암사의 정문 역할을 하는 건물로서 경내 및 극락전으로 가기 위한 입구에 자리한다. 우화루 정면은 높은 기둥을 세우고 마루를 놓은 2층의 구조이나 뒷면은 평범한 단층 구조를 가진 공중누각식의 형태로서 자연적인 지형과 조화를 이루어 선인들의 슬기를 엿볼 수 있다. 화암사에서 우화루뿐만 아니라 국보로 지정된 극락전을 볼 수 있으며, 극락전은 우리나라에서 유일한 하앙식(처마 무게를 받치는 건축 부재를 하나 더 설치해 지렛대 원리로 일반 구조보다 처마를 더 길게 낼 수 있도록 한 것) 건축물이다.
