Cheoyong Rock is a rock imbued with the legend of Cheoyonglang and Gaeunpo. When King Heongang of Silla (875-886) came to Gaeunpo to rest during a trip, a sudden mist blocked his view. The king immediately ordered a temple to be built nearby (currently Manghaesa, Cheongnyang-myeon, Ulju-gun). Then, the mist cleared as if washed away (Gaeunpo), and the sun rose. The Dragon King of the East Sea was greatly pleased, appearing with seven princes to dance. Among them, Cheoyong is said to have emerged from the rock, hence it is called Cheoyong Rock. Considered mystical and sacred, Cheoyong Rock consists of dark granite and a few shrubs growing between the rocks. At Cheoyong Park, which is good for a stroll, visitors can see the official character depicting the playful face of young Cheoyong. The Cheoyong Culture Festival is also held every October.
