Pebble beach on the sea off Ulsan in Ulsan Buk-gu · schedule Other · distance 15.9km · 4 stops · highlights Gangdong Mongdol Beach, Gangdong Seawater Ho…

The sea of Ulsan is somewhat different from the sea of Gangwon-do. The coastline hugging both mountains and the sea is especially scenic, making it the best choice for a drive course, but the clean beach with pebbles in Mongdol refreshes you to the core. The fresh seafood around and the lively women selling sashimi and spicy fish stew are excellent. In particular, the unique anchovy sashimi here is a delicacy not to be missed.

Gangdong Mongdol Beach, also called Jeongja Beach, is a beach located in Sanha-dong, Buk-gu, with many rounded pebbles gathered. It can be reached by driving about 20 minutes north along the coastal road from Jujeon. To the north of Gangdong Mongdol Beach are the Gangdong Hwaam columnar joints and it continues to Sinmyeong Beach. It is a rare pebble beach on the East Coast where the sound of pebbles crashing by the waves is quite loud. The advantage of a pebble beach is that it is easy to walk and avoids the hassle of sandy feet after water activities. The beach environment, restrooms, drinking fountains, and washing areas are well maintained, making it suitable for camping. Around the beach, there are apartment complexes, cafes, and shops, providing complete convenience facilities.
Gangdong Seawater Hot Spring supplies natural seawater from the sea in front of the pavilion, which is directly settled and boiled at over 100℃, resulting in high salinity and excellent sterilization effects. The interior consists of an iodine bath, cold seawater bath, hot seawater bath, and warm bath. Before entering the seawater bath, you must first shower and sufficiently warm your body in the Cheongmaekbanseok, herbal mist (sauna) bath, or Finnish-style dry sauna. In the seawater bath, fully immersing your body for about 5-15 minutes and repeating twice will completely remove waste products from the body. The ocean view seen from inside the bath is also nice, and the seawater hot spring is well-known for its quality, making it famous as a place frequently visited by people with illnesses.
Hwaam Columnar Joints are relics distributed along the Hwaam (Kkotbawi) beach area in Hwaam Village, Buk-gu, formed about 20 million years ago in the Neogene Period of the Cenozoic Era when basalt lava erupted and cooled, creating cooling joints by thermal contraction. The most distinctive feature of Gangdong Hwaam Columnar Joints is that the cross-section of the column has a flower pattern, and the columns develop in various forms and directions such as horizontal, vertical, and inclined. It is the oldest lava columnar joint on the East Coast, possessing high academic value, and its columns formed at various angles make the landscape beautiful. Stairs are installed throughout the columnar joints, allowing close observation and touch. These columnar joints resemble large piles of timber, some several tens of meters long, with a diagonal length of about 50 cm in the cross-section of a single column.
