Introduction

알봉은 나리분지가 만들어진 후에 형성되었다. 지하에 있던 마그마가 분출하여 화산이 만들어지면서 마그마 방이 수축하였고, 이로 인해 마그마 위에 있던 화산이 무너져 내려 나리분지가 만들어졌다. 그 후 마그마가 나리분지의 틈을 따라 분출하였는데, 멀리 흐르지 못하고 제자리에서 봉긋한 돔 형태의 알봉을 만들었다. 마치 새의 알처럼 보인다 하여 붙여진 이름이다. 울릉해담길 5구간인 알봉둘레길(5.5㎞)을 이용하여 알봉 꼭대기까지 오를 수 있으며, 알봉을 중심으로 한 바퀴 돌 수 있다.
