Hupo Port, located at the southern end of Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a major fishing port in the central waters of the East Sea. It is a distribution hub for all fish species caught in the East Sea, including saury, squid, mackerel, snow crab, and flatfish. Near Hupo Port are the Hupo Fisheries Cooperative, built in the shape of a ship, the Hupo Fisheries Cooperative Seafood Distribution Center, the fish auction market, Hupo Fish Market, and sashimi restaurants. Behind these are Deunggisan Mountain and Hupo Lighthouse, and around them is Hupo Deunggisan Park. At the dock of Hupo Port, visitors can watch various seafood being unloaded from fishing boats early in the morning, enjoy the atmosphere of the fish market, and purchase fresh sashimi and seafood at reasonable prices.
Deunggisan Skywalk, located behind Uljin Hupo Port, is a bridge 20 meters high and 135 meters long. Among them, the 57-meter reinforced glass floor section allows you to look down at the blue sea below, giving the sensation of walking on the sea. About halfway along the skywalk, there is a signboard for Hupo Gatbawi, which promises to grant one wish. At the end, a sculpture depicting Seonmyeo Nangja, who transformed into a dragon out of admiration for Uisang Daesa, welcomes visitors with a smile. Crossing the cloud bridge connected to the skywalk leads to Hupo Deunggisan Park. Besides the Hupo Lighthouse, the park features world-famous historical lighthouse sculptures, including models of Incheon Palimido Lighthouse, Korea's first modern lighthouse, France's oldest Cordouan Lighthouse built in 1611, and Egypt's Pharos Lighthouse, offering insights into the history and significance of lighthouses.
Deunggisandongdae Park is a neighborhood park located in Hupo-ri, Uljin-gun, featuring a lighthouse observatory with a beautiful sea backdrop and historically famous lighthouse sculptures. It includes models of Korea's first modern lighthouse, the Incheon Palmido Lighthouse, the Cordouan Lighthouse from France built in 1611, the Egyptian Pharos Lighthouse, and the German Bremerhaven Lighthouse, allowing visitors to learn about the diverse shapes, history, and significance of each lighthouse. The park also has pavilions for rest, a stage-shaped wall, a pagoda tree, and sculptures, making it a great place to take photos against the backdrop of the East Sea. From Hupo Deunggisandongdae Park, it is pleasant to walk across the Deunggisandongdae pedestrian suspension bridge and continue to the skywalk.
Hupo Neighborhood Park is located in Hupo-ri, Hupo-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is the site of a New Year's sunrise event held annually on January 1st. Climbing the stairs to the pavilion called Mangsajeong offers a splendid view of the Uljin coastal sea. Crossing the Deunggisan pedestrian bridge leads to the skywalk, where visitors can also appreciate a breathtaking view of the sea below. Nearby are the Hupo-ri mural village and Hupo beach, making it convenient to plan linked trips.
Hanmaeum Square is a plaza located in the center of Uljin Hupo Port, famous as the filming location of Baeknyeonsonnim. In the early dawn, you can see the auction of snow crab at Hupo Fish Market, and nearby there are many specialty restaurants where you can eat Uljin's famous snow crab. Since 2004, Uljin County Office has held the Uljin Snow Crab Festival around Hupo Port to protect, promote, and sell Uljin's specialty snow crab resources. It is a representative winter food festival of Uljin, designed to widely promote the excellence of Uljin snow crab and red snow crab, key local marine specialties, and to strengthen Uljin County's regional competitiveness. The festival opens with an opening ceremony at Hanmaeum Square in Hupo Port, and during the festival period various events such as performances, free yacht rides, snow crab tug-of-war, and fast snow crab leg eating contests are held. Nearby attractions such as Deunggisan Mountain, the Skywalk sea promenade, Seongryugul Cave, Uljin Snow Crab Promotion Exhibition Hall, and Freshwater Fish Ecology Experience Center make Hanmaeum Square a good starting point for a Uljin trip rich in sights and food.
Hupori Mural Village became famous as a filming location for the SBS entertainment program . Hupo, where the mural village is located, lies at the southernmost part of Uljin and is a golden fishing ground in the East Sea where various fish species can be caught, but it was not widely known to the public. However, after being featured on a national TV program, it was reborn as a fishing village known nationwide. Most murals depict the sea, flowers, and parents, giving a warm feeling. From Deunggisan Mountain, where the Hupo lighthouse stands, you can overlook the scenery of Hupo at a glance, and strolling through the mural village full of fun pictures connected to the mountain allows for an enjoyable time.
