Located near Uiwang Station on Line 1, the Uiwang Railroad Museum was established by Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) to widely promote the history and culture of railroads, which are a major transportation means and part of daily life for the public. It evokes nostalgic memories for adults and serves as an educational and experiential learning site for children, attracting many visitors. The first railroad museum was opened in 1935 by the Railway Bureau of the Chosun Government-General within the Yongsan Railroad Worker Training Center. The current museum traces its origin to the Railroad Memorial Hall opened in 1981 within the Railroad High School practice site. In 1988, the National Railroad Museum was newly built and opened at its current location, and a second hall opened in 1997 at Seoul Station. The Seoul Station hall closed in 2004 and was relocated and integrated into the Uiwang Railroad Museum. It takes about 12 minutes by car or a 12-minute walk (847m) from Uiwang Station on Line 1, with a direct bus available from the station.
