The Hoinamu tree is a deciduous tree that blooms pale yellow-white flowers in August, and its fruit ripens in October. Traditionally, Hoinamu has been valued as a folk tree believed to bring happiness to households, and was commonly planted in Korea. The Hoinamu tree in Doseo-dong, Uiseong-eup is estimated to be around 600 years old, with a height of 18 meters and a circumference of about 10 meters. In the past, its bark was stripped off as a remedy for hemorrhoids, leaving bark only on the east and northwest sides. Its branches split into three about 3 meters above the ground; the middle branch has died, while the east and west branches are still alive. The base of the tree is rotted with a large hole. According to the 1919 publication 『Joseon Geosu Nosu Myeongmokji』, under the Japanese Government-General of Korea, out of 208 Hoinamu trees listed across North and South Korea, the one in Doseo-dong had the largest circumference at chest height. It also ranked first among 360 trees recorded in the 1972 publication 『Protected Trees』. This tree has survived through long years with ancestral care, is exceptionally large and tall among Hoinamu, and is designated and protected as a natural monument due to its high biological conservation value. A Dangsan-je (village guardian deity ritual) is performed under the tree.

Uiseong Hyanggyo is said to have been established in the 3rd year of King Taejo of Joseon (1394) and was relocated from the Asacheon riverside to its current location by Lee Jong-jun, the county magistrate during King Seongjong's reign. It has undergone several repairs since. According to the terrain, on the left hillside is Dae Seong Jeon, the space for ancestral rites, and Myeongnyundang, the learning space, is arranged behind it for teaching the younger generation. It features a unique layout different from typical hyanggyo. The main building, Dae Seong Jeon, houses memorial plaques of saints of China and Korea; it is a five-kan wide, two-kan deep gable-roofed building from the mid-Joseon period. Myeongnyundang, the main lecture hall, is a five-kan wide, two-kan deep hipped-and-gable roof building shaped like the character ‘팔’ (eight) from the late Joseon period. Dongjae, the dormitory for students in front of Myeongnyundang, is a four-kan wide, two-kan deep gable-roofed building. The two-story gatehouse, Gwangpungnu, is five-kan wide and three-kan deep, with a hipped gable roof shaped like the character ‘인’ (human), and features a balcony on the second floor. The educational function of the hyanggyo has ceased, and now ancestral rites are held twice a year in spring and autumn.
