Jeongamru is a pavilion on Sotbawi built to commemorate General Gwak Jaewoo's victory in the Battle of Jeongam. The Jeongam battle was the first victory for the militia led by General Gwak Jaewoo. At that time, the Japanese commander Ankokuji sent scouts and placed wooden signs at the crossing point. Recognizing this, General Gwak Jaewoo moved the signs to the marsh area and used a deception tactic to win the battle. Jeongamru was once a ferry landing where ancestors traveled by boat, but now it is a pavilion boasting a magnificent view of the Namgang River. Jeongam (Sotbawi) is a rock island in the Namgang of Uiryeong. Its shape above water resembles a cauldron, and the submerged form looks like it has three legs, giving it its name. Beneath the iron bridge where Namgang flows gently, a rock resembling a cauldron floats leisurely on the water, and stories say that the area around Jeongam is associated with never-ending wealth.
Chungiksa is a shrine dedicated to General Gwak Jae-woo, who first raised volunteer soldiers to defend the country during the Imjin War, and the memorial tablets of 17 commanders. To the left of Chungui Gate is the memorial plaque of General Gwak Jae-woo's historic site, and next to the monument is a wooden Dapopaljak-style building called Chunguigak, which stores nameplates inscribed with the posthumous titles and official hometowns of General Gwak Jae-woo and the 17 commanders. Chunguigak is built in the traditional Korean wooden architecture style without using any iron nails. Before heading from Chunguigak to Chungiksa Shrine, on the right stands a roughly 500-year-old quince tree listed as a natural monument of Gyeongsangnam-do, measuring 8.5 meters in height and 3 meters in circumference at chest height. Inside Honguimun Gate is Chungiksa Shrine, where the memorial tablets of General Gwak Jae-woo, the 17 commanders, and countless unnamed volunteer soldiers are enshrined. Every April 22, a memorial ritual is held here, attracting many visitors who offer incense. At the western end after leaving Chungiksa Shrine is the memorial hall, exhibiting relics of General Gwak Jae-woo and the volunteer soldiers, including mounted battle paintings, vividly depicting scenes from the Imjin War. Behind the memorial hall is the Uibyeong Museum, consisting of the archaeological history room and volunteer soldier relic exhibition hall.
Hanwoosan is a mountain connected to Jagulsan, featuring grand terrain and deep valleys with numerous spectacular rock formations. The central valley flows refreshingly and is also called Chalbi Valley because cold rain is said to fall even in summer. Scattered legends such as Nongsso and Gaksiso add charm, with azaleas blooming profusely in spring, lush green forests in summer, and peak autumn foliage. In winter, icicles hang densely between rocks along the valley, evoking the season's atmosphere. The mountain was also a filming location for the movie Beautiful Days, particularly a scene descending Hanwoosan symbolizing life's hardships with a horse cart winding down the mountain slopes. In spring, rhododendrons bloom in clusters, coloring the entire mountain red, making it a popular hiking route for families. Paragliding enthusiasts create a spectacular display of colorful paragliders high above.
