Hwangji Pond, located in downtown Taebaek, is a source of the Nakdonggang River, flowing all the way to the Yeongnam Plain. The pond is divided into three sections: Sangji, with a diameter of 100 meters, Jungji and Haji. Although it is small in size, the pond supplies 5,000 tons of water a day.

As the source of the Nakdong River, it is located in the city center, where the water springing from this pond flows majestically through the vast Yeongnam Plain. The pond is divided into Sangji, Jungji, and Haji, with a circumference of 100m, and about 5,000 tons of water emerge daily, which has also been used as a source for tap water. According to legend, the land where the Hwang family once lived turned into the pond after they gave manure to an old monk requesting alms instead of money, causing the earth to shake. This place is also one of Korea's top 100 famous waters.

Simwonsa, located in Taebaek, is a branch temple of Woljeongsa, the main temple of the 4th district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It was founded during the Silla period by Wonhyo (617–686) and was originally called Simjeoksa (深寂寺). In 1947, the temple was burned down during anti-communist operations, but the head monk at the time saved two Buddhist statues, two ritual bells, and a pair of candlesticks, preserving them separately. In 1953, the temple was rebuilt at its current location and renamed Simwonsa. The buildings include the Gwaneumjeon (Avalokitesvara Hall) and the monks' quarters. Inside the Gwaneumjeon is a seated Buddha statue characterized by an unusually large head compared to its body and a protruding lower abdomen, a rare form believed to be from the Joseon Dynasty.

The Bonjeoksa Site Three-Story Stone Pagoda is a three-tiered stone pagoda relic constructed during the Silla Dynasty. The stone pagoda components were kept at the Taebaek Coal Museum, and in 2012, the Bonjeoksa Site Historical Park was created to restore the pagoda. The surviving components are incomplete. The Bonjeoksa site is also called Beonjeoksa Site and is located on the eastern foothills of Hambaksan Mountain (altitude 1,573m), which forms the western boundary of Taebaek-si. The temple site lies near the entrance bridge to Jeolgol Resort, where houses now stand, and the name Jeolgol derives from the fact that many temples once stood here.
