Sinjindo Fish Market, located in Korea's largest blue crab producing area, is bustling with tourists all year round. Dozens of fishing boats fill the harbor, hinting at the market's scale, and as boats arrive and anchor, lively fresh fish begin to be displayed. Besides the early morning auctions, impromptu auctions often take place at the dock, offering exciting sights for visitors. Along the harbor, seafood shops like the Sinjindo Fishing Village Cooperative seafood direct sales center showcase freshly caught seasonal seafood in red basins, enticing tourists. You can find most seafood from the West Sea, including blue crabs, webfoot octopus, anglerfish, flatfish, rockfish, and various shellfish such as anchovies and mackerel. If you want to eat fresh fish and seafood caught here right away, head up to the restaurant on the second floor of the sashimi center, where you can enjoy sashimi and spicy fish stew with rice. Grilled whole squid sold on the street is also popular. If staying at a nearby pension, buying fresh sashimi and barbecue seafood to cook yourself is a great pleasure. Every May, the Sinjindo Blue Crab Festival is held here, offering even more affordable blue crabs.
