Baekhwasan, located in Dongmun-ri, Taean, is the main mountain and sacred mountain of Taean. Named Baekhwasan because the snow-covered peaks look as if covered with white cloth, the mountain stands 284m above sea level. Along the path to the summit, there is a good harmony of strange rock formations and pine trees. The sunset viewed from the mountain top is especially famous for its beauty. Climbing Baekhwasan from the Dongmun-ri side, you encounter Taeulam, where the Taean Dongmun-ri Maeaesamjonbul, called a Baekje treasure, is enshrined. Since the Solhyanggil course 5 passes through here, it is often visited by hikers. Baekhwasan Naengcheongol is especially known for maintaining a cool atmosphere even in midsummer, where locals used to seek refuge from the heat. The mountain is not high, which makes it easy for people of all ages and genders to climb.
Jeongga Ne Haemul Son Kalguksu is a restaurant specializing in Bak Sok Nakji Tang and seafood kalguksu located in Taean, opened in 1998. Bak Sok Nakji Tang is a traditional Taean dish that originally used commonly caught mud octopus from the Taean coast with squash, instead of rare and expensive meat, simmered together into a refreshing broth. Only fresh mud octopus from the Taean region is used, which remains tender and soft even after boiling, and kalguksu noodles can be added to the broth. The kalguksu uses only Korean domestic wheat, providing both great taste and health benefits. The seasoning is mild, and the fresh ingredients make it enjoyable for both adults and children. Customers who want a lighter meal than the octopus soup can order the domestic wheat seafood hand-cut kalguksu. Neither dish uses chemical seasonings, making it a good choice when craving a clean and deep seafood broth dish.
Taean Sinduri Coastal Sand Dunes began to gradually form about 15,000 years ago after the Ice Age. It is an area directly affected by northwest seasonal winds, where strong winds carry sand to the coast, creating sand dunes over a long period. It is a typical sedimentary landform featuring all natural conditions that can appear in dunes, including full dunes, dune grasslands, dune wetlands, and dune forests. It serves as a buffer zone connecting inland and coast and protects against tsunamis. Sinduri Coastal Sand Dunes are the largest sand dunes in Korea and one of Taean’s most unique ecological tourist destinations, designated as a Slow City.
