Introduction

월화원은 경기도 효원공원 서편에 위치한 중국 광둥식 전통 정원이다. 2003년 경기도와 중국 광둥성이 체결한 우호 교류 협약에 따라 조성되었다. 2005년 6월 15일 공사를 시작해 2006년 4월 17일 개장하였다. 광둥 지역 전통 정원의 특색을 살려 건물과 정원이 조화를 이루도록 설계되었다. 창문을 통해 정원이 보이도록 설계되었고, 후원에는 흙으로 만든 가산과 인공 호수가 조성되었다. 호수 주변에는 인공 폭포와 배 모양의 정자가 설치되었다. 건물에는 광둥 지역 전통 방식으로 하양 가루, 파랑 벽돌, 나무를 이용해지었으며 곳곳에 한시와 글귀가 새겨져 있다. 지붕 접합부에는 나무, 벽돌, 석회 조각 등이 사용되었다.
