Sunchang Market, located in Namgye-ri, Sunchang-eup, Sunchang-gun, Jeonbuk Teukbyeoljachi-do, was established in 1923 with market buildings and holds market days on the 1st and 6th of every month. It is famous for agricultural products such as chili peppers, rice, and beans, as well as a traditional sundae (Korean blood sausage) alley, which is a specialty of Sunchang. In the 1960s and 1970s, it thrived as one of the nation's seven major cattle markets, attracting about 5,000 visitors per day. It was also particularly famous for embroidery products, drawing embroidery merchants from across the country. Although the market declined due to rural population decreases, some embroidery artisans have continued the tradition. From 2002 to 2010, the market underwent modernization projects improving facilities such as market buildings, fish shops, and restrooms, and enhanced convenience with parking lots and connections to local buses.
