Manilsa, located on the foothills of Hoemunsan in Anjeong-ri, Gurim-myeon, Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do, was first established as a temple during the Baekje era under King Mu in 673. It was rebuilt in the early Joseon period by Muhakdaesa before Yi Seong-gye became king. The temple was completely destroyed during the Korean War in 1950 and rebuilt again in 1954. In 1998, an Iljumun gate, Daeungjeon main hall, and a dormitory building were each constructed. The name Manilsa comes from Muhakdaesa’s prayer that Yi Seong-gye would ascend the throne while praying here for ten days. A stele (height 175 cm, width 65 cm, thickness 16 cm) records this history. Below the temple lies Sanan Village, and views of the picturesque ridges of Mujiksan and Seongmisan can be enjoyed.
You can experience the flavor of a prestigious gochujang brand in Sunchang, famously associated with gochujang. The reputation of Sunchang gochujang began right here at the Gochujang Fermentation Village. Under Mt. Hoemun, the jars fermenting in the clear water and clean nature of Sunchang are filled not only with gochujang but also with our tradition and the wisdom of our ancestors. By listening to a traditional gochujang maker explaining how to make gochujang and then making tteokbokki with the vividly red fermented gochujang, visitors become immersed in the mystery of fermented foods and the charm of gochujang that cannot be taught anywhere else. The sanchae bibimbap mixed evenly with red gochujang and fresh local vegetables of Sunchang has the effect of enriching both body and mind. In addition to gochujang experiences, various programs in crafts, farming, culture, and hands-on activities are available to choose and enjoy. As a gochujang village, all meals here are flavored with traditional Sunchang gochujang and Sunchang specialties. The spicy and sweet seasoning with fresh vegetables in sanchae bibimbap and the juicy stir-fried pork are the local delicacies. The village offers spacious accommodation for 120 people, along with a restaurant, auditorium, seminar room, campfire facilities, and other leisure amenities, providing enjoyable memories throughout the stay.

Sunchang Traditional Gochujang Folk Village was created by Sunchang-gun to revitalize the traditional fermented sauce industry and continue the reputation and traditional manufacturing secrets of Sunchang traditional gochujang. It was established in 1997 after about three years of development. Artisans who were scattered throughout Sunchang-gun were gathered in the Baeksan-ri area of Sunchang-eup at the foot of Amisan Mountain, forming the Traditional Gochujang Folk Village, which has transformed into a tourist site. This place combines hygienic standards proven by modern science with the artisans' methods that preserve the original taste and ingredients, producing gochujang that is both hygienic and traditionally authentic. The entire village serves as a gochujang sales location and tourist spot, where large jars of gochujang and pickled vegetables fill the yards of each house and meju blocks hang from the eaves, adding to the traditional atmosphere. Each household produces and sells its own gochujang, and handles about 20 kinds of traditional fermented soybean paste, soy sauce, and pickled vegetables made from persimmons, sesame leaves, cucumbers, garlic, chili peppers, bellflower roots, deodeok, and plums, with prices varying slightly by household. The quality control of the sauces and pickled goods made in the village is managed by the Sunchang-gun Jangryu Business Office.
