Seoraksan is a famous natural attraction spanning Sokcho-si, Goseong, Inje, and Yangyang-gun in Gangwon-do. It was designated as the fifth national park after Hallyeohaesang National Park in 1970, and in 1982 it became the first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Korea. It is also listed on the IUCN Green List, a globally recognized list of well-managed protected areas. With a total area of approximately 398km², Seoraksan National Park is vast. Based on its main peak, Daecheongbong, the eastern side facing Sokcho-si is called Oeseorak, the western side Naeseorak, and the areas around Hangyeryeong and Osaek are Namseorak. Daecheongbong, the third highest peak after Hallasan and Jirisan, is covered in snow for 5–6 months each year, which is the origin of the name 'Seorak.' From Daecheongbong, visitors can view the magnificent Seoraksan scenery and the East Sea, with sunrise and sunset regarded as particularly spectacular. In addition to Daecheongbong, about 30 other peaks including Socheongbong, Hwachaebong, and Jungcheongbong form a grand landscape. Other hidden scenic spots include Biryong Falls, Ulsan Rock, Heundeul Rock, and Geumgang Cave. The cable car near Seoraksan Small Park allows elderly and disabled visitors to easily enjoy the Seoraksan views.
Hadomun Ssamchae Village, located at the southern end of Daepo-dong in Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, was formed in 1998 when the former Daepo, Domun, and Seorak areas merged into Daepo-dong administratively. It is a typical rural village consisting of 114 households and 273 residents, with a balanced mix of field and rice farming. Previously, income came solely from agriculture, but now, with the vitality of Seoraksan tourism and East Coast live fish tourism, local agricultural products are sold directly to visitors, and crops such as lettuce, jujube cherry tomatoes, and strawberries are cultivated. In particular, clean leafy vegetables are grown and supplied to nearby restaurants, improving farmers' income. Since July 2005, the village has operated local restaurants, pension-style accommodations, and various rural experience programs, offering visitors attractions, food, and activities, creating new sources of income. At the entrance of Domun Ssamchae Village are Seorak Haemaji Park and Seorak Port, where visitors can enjoy year-round sea trips and spectacular sunrises, along with fresh live fish sashimi.
