In 1975, porcelain caught in the nets of fishing boats operating in the waters of Bangchuk-ri, Jeungdo-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, revealed the existence of a Yuan Dynasty Chinese trade ship lying underwater. A large number of Chinese high-quality porcelain and metal crafts were salvaged. From 1976 to 1984, about 2,000 pieces of porcelain and approximately 8 million coins (28 tons) were recovered. This was the excavation of the 'Treasure Ship Sinanseon,' considered the beginning of underwater archaeology in Korea. The sunken ship was a large trade vessel measuring up to 34 meters in length and 11 meters in width. It sank in the waters in front of Sinan while traveling from Hangzhou, China to Japan via Korea. Based on the style of the porcelain, coins, and wooden slip documents (mokgan), the sinking is estimated between 1331 and 1350. The Sinan undersea relics, which attracted worldwide attention, provided new materials for research on 14th century Song and Yuan Dynasty Chinese porcelain, and the trade and ship history among Korea, China, and Japan at the time. The excavated relics are displayed at the National Museum of Korea and the National Maritime Relics Exhibition Hall, and the excavation site is designated as a national historic site. To remember the noble spirit of the fishermen who revealed this cultural treasure and the dedication and efforts of the investigating personnel and naval deep-sea divers who participated in the excavation and salvage despite the waves and sea winds, this monument was erected.

This is South Korea's only halophyte botanical garden where you can observe an ecological environment designated as a UNESCO biodiversity conservation area and Ramsar wetland. Created on an 110,000㎡ salt field wetland of Taepyeong salt farm, it is the only ecological wetland in Korea where the wetland biota of a salt field is fully preserved. In the botanical garden, you can observe various halophyte plant communities naturally growing in tidal flats, including about 70 species such as Salicornia herbacea (Tungtungmadi), Namujae, Suaeda maritima, and Haehongnamul blending in colorful harmony, and the reeds (Ppibi) waving abundantly, which cannot grow in polluted environments. Also, along the approximately 220m trail, you can closely observe not only halophytes but also various tidal flat creatures such as mudskippers, sesarmid crabs, fiddler crabs, and horn snails. Opposite Taepyeong Halophyte Botanical Garden are a Salt Museum, Salt Field Observatory, Taepyeong Salt Farm, and Salt Experience Center.

Jeungdo, the treasure island of Sinan-gun, is an untouched island with pristine natural surroundings and was designated Asia's first Slow City on December 1, 2007. The famous Jjangttungeo Bridge in Jeungdo is a 470 meter wooden bridge floating over the mudflats, built to observe the mudflat creatures. Jjangttungeo fish can only live in clean mudflats; this area has many of them, and the bridge was named after videos of the fish jumping around its piers. When the tide is low, the muddy mudflats unfold, allowing observation of various mudflat creatures that protect the earth's natural environment. When the tide is high, walking on the bridge feels like strolling over the sea. The sunset view from the bridge is truly spectacular, widely known as a romantic date spot. Crossing this bridge leads to the beach of Ujeonghae Beach. At low tide, visitors can see and directly experience the natural ecology of jumping jjangttungeo fish, mud crabs, seven-spot crabs, marine worms, clams, and more.

Ujeon Beach is a place where you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the dense Korean pine forest of the Korean Peninsula. The scenery of the front sea with large and small islands is very beautiful, and the white sand beach and seawater are clean. In the waters off Bangchuk-ri to the north, numerous relics from the Chinese Song and Yuan dynasties, submerged for over 600 years, have been excavated, attracting attention both domestically and internationally. Near the beach, Eldorado Resort offers convenient accommodation. Also, next to the resort is the Jeungdo Mudflat Ecology Exhibition Hall, where you can learn about and observe various mudflat ecosystems.
