[A mountain of peaks, valleys, and culture, the true mountain of Gaya] Gayasan, located on the border of North and South Gyeongsang provinces, is a rare mountain exceeding 1400 meters despite not being on the Baekdudaegan ridge of our mountain range. As its name suggests, it is the main mountain of Gaya, encompassing Daegaya (Hapcheon or Goryeong), Goryeong Gaya, Seongsan Gaya, and Gimcheon, which was likely part of the early Gaya confederacy. The summit area and Maehwasan, also known as Namsan, are covered with rocks, placing it among notable mountains. The six mountains—Duribong, Gitdaebong, Maryeong, and Danjibong—that connect these peaks continuously flow clear water year-round, creating the scenic Hongryudong valley that runs through the womb-shaped terrain. Additionally, the Tripitaka Koreana, a UNESCO World Heritage, is housed in the middle of the mountain, so nothing is lacking in peaks, valleys, or culture. Taking a bus to Chi-in-ri, climbing to the summit, and ending with a visit to Haeinsa Temple would be too superficial. It is not too late to start from Cheongnyangsa on Maehwasan, circle the womb-shaped summit, and then proceed. Although the 26-kilometer route takes 2 nights and 3 days, the effort is worthwhile. The three national treasures and five treasures of the Dharma Hall Temple encountered along the way will be perceived differently from ordinary sights...
