Mulyoungari means 'sacred mountain.' It is also called 'Suryeongsan' or 'Suryeongak,' where it is said that the 'water guardian deity' lives. The prefix 'Mul' refers to the wetland inside the crater. The crater's depth is about 40 meters, with deposits estimated to have formed 2100 to 2800 years ago, and the wetland deposits reach up to 10 meters deep. The Mulyoungari Oreum Ramsar wetland trail features multiple forest paths, allowing visitors to enjoy cool breezes even in hot summer weather and create a dreamy atmosphere on rainy days, impressing visitors. It connects with the Sumang-ri Jatseong ecological trail. Jatseong is a traditional Jeju livestock culture relic, referring to boundary stone walls built around pastures. Residents engage in mountain livestock farming around the mountain, creating a pastoral landscape. The Oreum exploration begins after walking half a lap around the ranch where cattle graze leisurely. Since 2006, it has been designated a Ramsar wetland by a global wetland protection organization. It is a habitat for various flora and fauna, including wildlife and endangered species, making its natural ecology highly valuable for conservation.
Located in Gasiri, Pyoseon-myeon, Ttarabi Oreum consists of three craters (gumburi) and six peaks. The lava expelled during the volcanic eruption shaped gentle mountain contours, and in autumn, the silver grass covering the oreum creates a spectacular scene. Enchanted by this landscape, people began calling Ttarabi Oreum the 'Queen of Oreums.' The silver grass shows its brilliance from the base of the oreum. The wide plain is filled with white silver grass swaying in the wind, with cozy paths running between. Visitors often hide among the silver grass, peeking out to capture the perfect photo. It takes about 30 minutes to reach the summit, making it accessible to everyone. As you climb the stairway, briefly obscured views suddenly open up in awe at the peak. The craters and ridges form gentle curves, and beyond the countless silver grass tufts, Daeroksan (Geunsaseum-i Oreum) and a wind power plant stretch beneath the sunlight. The summit of Ttarabi Oreum resembles a sea of silver grass. The wind stirs gentle to wild silvery waves. Whether walking along the ridgeline or crossing beside the craters, everything moving on Ttarabi Oreum becomes a picture. As the sun nears the horizon, the sea ripens into golden hues. At Ttarabi Oreum, color and light harmonize moment by moment. Native Jeju silver grass blooms to its fullest from October to November and retains its vitality and atmosphere through winter. Sinpung-ri, meaning 'new and abundant village,' is a historic village with prehistoric relics such as dolmens scattered around. It is currently the best-operated rural experience village in Jeju Island, equipped with experience facilities including native pig pens, thatched houses, and a wedding hall. At Sinpung-ri Experience Recreation Village, where traditional Jeju culture and customs are well preserved to this day, visitors can learn Jeju dialect and experience traditional weddings. The village relies heavily on agriculture but also has a cozy fishing port nearby, allowing for both rural and fishing village experiences. Additionally, a branch of Pungcheon Elementary School was remodeled to operate guesthouses and single-room accommodations in the form of thatched houses, enabling overnight stays.
Honinji is a small pond where the three gods of Tamna, born from Samseonghyeol, held a joint wedding with three princesses from the eastern country (Byeokranggo). Though shallow and small, it is said that the population of Jeju began to grow and farming started after the three gods held their wedding here. Right next to Honinji, there is a small cave where the three gods set up their bridal chamber after the wedding; the cave is divided into three passages, suggesting the legend may have some truth. Along with Samseonghyeol, this place is a good spot to trace the origins of Jeju’s ancestors. The red lotus flowers that bloom here in summer are as beautiful as the sunset.
