Seocheon Hyanggyo is an early Joseon Dynasty educational institution established by the government for the education and moral cultivation of the local people in Seocheon. The exact date of its establishment is unknown, but it is believed to have been built during the period when many hyanggyo were built nationwide in the early Joseon era. There are records of several repairs, with major reconstruction during King Gojong's reign (1863–1906). The building layout follows the Jeonhak-hu-myo style, with Myeongnyundang, a learning space, at the front and Daeseongjeon, an ancestral ritual space, at the rear. To the left and right of Daeseongjeon are Dongmu and Seomu, and to the left and right of Myeongnyundang are Dongjae and Seojae, dormitories for students. Other structures include the Hongsalmun gate, Naesammun inner gate, and Oesammun outer gate.
