Since the mid-Joseon period, the area including Samjang-myeon and Sacheon-myeon was collectively called Deoksandong, and the most famous market there is Deoksan Market. Deoksan Market is a traditional market held every five days (on days ending in 4 and 9), serving as a vital commercial hub where residents near Cheonwangbong, the main peak of Jirisan, buy and sell daily necessities and food to sustain their livelihoods. It sells various medicinal herbs, wild vegetables, and vegetables from Jirisan, and dried persimmons are famous in winter, though the goods traded have changed over time. It is well known nationwide not only among people from the deep areas of Jirisan, such as Okjong and Cheongam in Hadong-gun, and Maedae and Naegong in Sancheong-gun, but also more broadly. Popular items include dried persimmons, strawberries, beekeeping products, chestnuts, gorosoe sap, tea, and medicinal herbs.
