Nakdong Estuary Eco-Center, located where the river meets the ocean, is a habitat for migratory birds. The center focuses on research, maintenance, and education about the ecology of the wetlands. The center not only has various programs, but also a wild animal treatment center, experience center, observatory and more.
Nakdong River Estuary Eco Center handles various tasks including estuary area environmental conservation and use, migratory bird habitat conservation and management, natural ecology exhibitions and education, and wildlife treatment and protection. It is located where the Nakdong River meets the sea, at Eulsukdo, a world-class migratory bird site. Eulsukdo is divided into the upper Eulsukdo Ecological Park and the lower Eulsukdo Migratory Bird Park. As the core area of the Nakdong River lower migratory bird habitat (Natural Monument) and a central axis of estuary ecotourism, it is the best place to observe winter migratory birds and the estuary wetland ecology. Nakdong River Estuary Eco Center not only runs its own programs but also manages the Wildlife Treatment Center, Exploration Experience Center, and Amisan Observatory, displaying human and ecological information of the Nakdong River estuary in an easy-to-understand way and offering various experience programs.
Eulsukdo Park is divided into the lower part Eulsukdo Migratory Bird Park and the upper part Eulsukdo Ecological Park, based on the road connecting Hadan and Myeongji. Eulsukdo Migratory Bird Park is located in the lower part of Eulsukdo within the cultural heritage protection zone (Nakdong River estuary migratory bird habitat). In the past, Eulsukdo was used for farmland, a sewage treatment plant, a landfill, and dredged soil storage. Through the 1999 Eulsukdo Ecological Park establishment basic plan, the wetland restoration project was conducted in three phases and completed in 2005. In 2009, a wetland expansion and improvement project was carried out to enhance some wetland functions, completing the current wetland appearance. Eulsukdo Migratory Bird Park serves as the central area for the Nakdong River estuary migratory bird habitat and ecological tourism. Especially, many migratory birds visit the restored wetland in winter, creating a magnificent scene. At the Nakdong River Estuary Eco Center, various information about the estuary and exhibitions and explanations about plants, benthic organisms, fish, birds, and mammals living in the estuary can be found. The Wildlife Treatment Center, part of the Eco Center, plays an important role in rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating injured wild animals. The Nakdong River Estuary Exploration Experience Site offers various educational experience activities to enhance understanding of the Nakdong River estuary and its ecosystem. Eulsukdo Ecological Park is located on the upper part of Eulsukdo. In 1983, some areas were removed from the cultural heritage protection zone for the construction of the Hagutduk barrage, providing facilities such as parking lots, plazas, sports facilities, and buildings. Through the Four Major Rivers Project, the upper part of Eulsukdo, formerly used by the Korea Water Resources Corporation for Nakdong River dredged soil storage, was developed into an ecological park.
The Nakdong River Estuary geological site located in Saha-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, is a cultural heritage protection area designated as a natural monument. The estuary features large and small coastal sandbars made of accumulated sand and gravel that emerge above the water surface, along with expansive mudflats. It is famous for scenic coastal sandbars called Daema-deung, Maenggeummori-deung, Jangjado, Sinjado, Baekhap-deung, Doyo-deung, and Jinudo. The Nakdong River Estuary Geopark starts from the Eulsukdo Nakdong River Estuary Exploration Experience Center and extends to the Nakdong River Eco Center, Nakdong River Estuary Barrage, Jangrim Port, Hongti Port, Amisan Observatory, and Dadaepo Beach. The Nakdong River Estuary Eco Center serves as the geopark's information center, offering various geological artifact exhibits, videos, and estuary explorations. The Amisan Observatory provides views of coastal sandbars and sunset scenes, and displays materials on the formation process of the Nakdong River Estuary delta and other geological heritage. The delta landform of the Nakdong River Estuary is rare in Korea, being the largest scale and possessing very high geological value.
