Moluandae is a scenic spot located where the Nakdong River estuary meets the sea. Until the 16th century, it was an island called Moluundo, but soil carried from the upper Nakdong River accumulated, connecting it to Dadaepo and forming a tombolo. A tombolo is a landform created by sediment depositing in shallow sea waters between an island and the mainland, with a well-known example being Seongsan Ilchulbong in Jeju. The poetic name Moluandae means "island immersed in clouds" and was given because on foggy and cloudy days at the Nakdong estuary, the island appears hidden within the clouds. At Moluandae, one can observe the Late Cretaceous Lower Dadaepo Formation and the processes of crustal deformation in Busan in a single view. It preserves diverse geological features such as faults, fault rocks, dikes, veins, chert beds, cross-bedding, and trace fossils, making it a site worthy of being called a textbook of geology.
