Gyeongsangnam-do Sacheon City · Today’s itinerary

Silan Coastal Road, Falling for Its Picture-Perfect Views

Sil-an Coastal Road is a charming seaside route that runs along Sacheon Bay, which deeply carves into the inland. Heading south along National Road 3, you reach Samcheonpo, starting from Mochung Park and extending about 9.7 km through Samcheonpo Bridge Park and Daebangjingul Port to Samcheonpo Port. Along this road, you encounter beautiful deep blue sea, fresh mudflats, clusters of islands, a stylish colorful lighthouse, and a fantastic sunset path, offering a flawless landscape. The moderately curved road follows the coast, allowing a full ride to Samcheonpo Bridge Park. Leaving the elegant Samcheonpo Bridge behind toward Daebangjingul Port, numerous coves begin indented along the southwest coast. When you face calm, lake-like seas, a sense of comfort suddenly floods in. ※ You can zoom in on the map below to check detailed locations by course. Mochung Park is a natural park of 112,000㎡ utilizing the natural terrain adjacent to the coast of Songpo-dong, Sacheon-si. It was created to commemorate Admiral Yi Sun-sin of Chungmugong, who defeated the Japanese navy at Sacheon seonchang during the Imjin War, leading to victory in the Battle of Sacheon, and to serve as a resting space for citizens. The park has dense forests and a great view, allowing visitors to see as far as Mojarangpo beyond the sea. Mojarangpo is the historic site recorded in the Nanjung Ilgi where, on May 29, 1592, the first sortie led by Yi Sun-sin’s fleet with the turtle ships destroyed 13 enemy ships and rested overnight. In the park, there is a memorial monument for Admiral Yi measuring 110cm (foundation stone), 67cm (middle stone), and 212cm (stele), with a statue of Admiral Yi right next to it. To the northwest of the monument lies Jangjwagok, which served as an observation post overlooking Gangji Sea. The surrounding area is well equipped with various exercise facilities and pavilions, providing a relaxing space for visitors. Mochung Park is also the starting point of Sil’an Noeul-gil, a walking trail in Sacheon. If time allows, it is recommended to visit Mochung Park and enjoy the coastal scenery of Sacheon Bay and the Sil’an sunset, one of the nine best sunset spots nationwide, along the Sil’an Noeul-gil walking route.

Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge is a land bridge connecting Daebang in Sacheon City and Changseon in Namhae County. It refers to five bridges including Samcheonpo Bridge, Choyang Bridge, Neukdo Bridge, Changseon Bridge, and Danhang Bridge that connect three islands (Neukdo, Choyangdo, Mogaeseom) between Sacheon City and Namhae County. Construction began in February 1995 and was completed and opened in April 2003. Passing through Sacheon city and entering Samcheonpo, you will experience the refreshing sea breeze and see the clear blue sea. Above it, the bridges serve as charming connectors among the islands, and that place is the Changseon-Samcheonpo Bridge.

Daebangjin Guhang is a 2,099m² (635-pyeong) artificial harbor located on the outer seaside of Daebang-dong, Sacheon-si. It is one of the military port facilities established to prevent the frequent invasions by Japanese pirates on the southern coast during the late Goryeo Dynasty. During the Imjin War, Admiral Yi Sun-sin is said to have used it as a naval base. The current harbor was constructed around 1820 during the Joseon era under King Sunjo by the Jinju Byeongma Jeoldosa, who mobilized the people of 73 myeon under Jinju Mok to build a stone embankment. It served as a base for military communication with the Jeollyangcheomsa of Namhae Changseondo, housing about 300 naval soldiers and two warships at that time.

Samcheonpo Port is a port located in Sacheon-si, classified as a Category 1 port under the Harbor Act with an area of 2,136,000㎡. Since being designated as a trade port in 1966, it has developed as a gateway to western Gyeongnam, organically connecting the southern and western coasts of Korea. It handles exports such as ores and kaolin while also serving as a support port for fuel transport to thermal power plants. Additionally, it is a center for coastal fisheries in western Gyeongnam, where various fish species such as anchovies, hairtail, gizzard shad, and mackerel are mainly caught. Along the 165km long coastline, there are 47 large and small fishing ports with more than 2,000 fishing vessels in total. The waters in front of Sacheon-si, which have moderate currents and are rich in plankton, are considered one of the clean marine areas on the southern coast. Furthermore, it is a treasure trove of seafood, and fresh fish and seafood caught here are famous for their delicious taste and supplied nationwide. At the fresh fish center lined along Samcheonpo Port, visitors can fully enjoy freshly caught live fish. Every year from late July to early August, during the wild gizzard shad festival held at Samcheonpo Port Palpo landfill (near Nosan Park), many tourists from all over the country flock to the area, creating a bustling atmosphere.
