Gyeongsangnam-do Sacheon City · Today’s itinerary

Rafting and Minnow Fishing to Beat the Heat

Sachon-si, Gyeongnam has many rural experience villages. Among them, the rural experience programs of Bibongnae Village, Barian Village, and Choryang Dasulgi Village are fulfilling. The experience villages also offer homestays, and after the activities, visitors can move to the nearby sea to enjoy swimming, making it a twofold benefit. The representative activity in Bibongnae Village is riding a raft. Wearing life jackets, you can ride a raft made of logs tied together in the stream. The raft is wide but the water is shallow, so it is a safe and popular experience for children.

Dasolsa is a historic temple founded by the monk Yeongi during the reign of King Jijeung of Silla. It was destroyed during the Imjin War but was greatly revived in the 12th year of King Sukjong's reign (1686) after monks united their efforts in a reconstruction that lasted ten years. However, 62 years later, in the 24th year of King Yeongjo's reign (1748), the temple suffered a major fire. In the 34th year of Yeongjo's reign (1758), several monks once again joined forces to rebuild Myeongbujeon, Daeyangru, and Sawangmun. In December 1914, another fire burned all the temple buildings except Daeyangru, which survived. After three years of reconstruction starting the following year, the current building was completed.

Daebangjin Guhang is a 2,099m² (635-pyeong) artificial harbor located on the outer seaside of Daebang-dong, Sacheon-si. It is one of the military port facilities established to prevent the frequent invasions by Japanese pirates on the southern coast during the late Goryeo Dynasty. During the Imjin War, Admiral Yi Sun-sin is said to have used it as a naval base. The current harbor was constructed around 1820 during the Joseon era under King Sunjo by the Jinju Byeongma Jeoldosa, who mobilized the people of 73 myeon under Jinju Mok to build a stone embankment. It served as a base for military communication with the Jeollyangcheomsa of Namhae Changseondo, housing about 300 naval soldiers and two warships at that time.
