Utdari Culture Village, a cultural and artistic experience center that began in August 2006, was established when Pyeongtaek City and Pyeongtaek Cultural Center renovated the closed old Seotan Elementary School Geumgak branch into a cultural and artistic experience space. It features classrooms reminiscent of 1960s to 1980s elementary schools and a permanent outdoor Utdari stationery store exhibition. Cultural artists and program instructors offer various programs such as pottery, traditional experiences, crafts, and nongak (farmer’s music). Utdari Culture Village’s 'visiting experiential learning' is cultural and artistic education that enhances cultural achievements and expands understanding and experience of the arts through diverse programs that allow participants to experience both tradition and modernity. It is open to all ages from infants to adults, offering opportunities to directly engage with arts, find connections between art and daily life, share diverse emotions and experiences, and deepen understanding of art and culture.
Located in Bongnam-ri, Jinwi-myeon, Pyeongtaek-si, Jinwi Hyanggyo is said to be one of the most auspicious sites established in 1398. All buildings were destroyed by fire during the Byeongjahoran War, but in 1644, Governor Nam Du-geuk restored the Daeseongjeon, regaining its former grandeur. Jinwi Hyanggyo is structured with the classroom in front and the shrine behind, housing spirit tablets of 27 sages in the Daeseongjeon. Every spring and autumn, the Seokjeon ritual is held honoring Confucius and the spirit tablets. Moreover, the value of Jinwi Hyanggyo goes beyond this. It is excellently situated according to feng shui principles, considering the surrounding geography such as Jinwi Stream, Toebong Mountain, and Janganpyeong. This reflects faithful adherence to fundamental feng shui principles. Among all hyanggyo nationwide, Jinwi Hyanggyo is reputed for having the best feng shui, with its location harmonizing with natural beauty. Thus, Jinwi Hyanggyo is a harmonious treasure of history and feng shui, preserving its value eternally.
