The village Welcome to Dongmakgol in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do is well known as the filming location for director Park Kwang-hyun's movie "Welcome to Dongmakgol." The film, which depicts the confrontation and reconciliation process between the Korean Army, the People's Army, and the United Nations forces, attracted 8 million viewers nationwide and won awards such as Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress at prestigious domestic and international film festivals. As a result of its success, more than 100,000 tourists visit this site annually after the film's release. The filming location is well preserved, with features such as the old coal mine entrance called Dongmak Baramgul, Teacher Kim's house, a 500-year-old pavilion tree which was a place of harmony transcending ideological differences among the Korean Army, People's Army, and residents, and the crashed American fighter plane in Dongmakgol. Various nearby tourist attractions include Yeongwol Coal Mine Cultural Village, Pyeongchang Rock Park, and Baekryong Cave.

Baekryong Cave is a representative natural limestone cave located on the cliff at the foot of Baegunsan in Mahar-ri, Mitan-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Due to its high academic and scenic value, it was designated a Natural Monument in February 1979. Of its total length of about 2 km, 700 m has been open to the public since July 2010. Baekryong Cave, the first and only exploration-type cave open to the public in Korea, allows visitors to change into exploration suits and receive exploration equipment before exploring the cave naturally with a professional cave guide. Inside the cave, there are various cave formations such as stalactite pipes, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, flowstones, drumstones, cave pearls, curtains, and bacon sheets, as well as various animals including bats, cave moths, and shrimp. In particular, the open section A cave allows exploration of various passages and direct observation of diverse cave formations. The B, C, and D caves remain closed to protect cave formations and wildlife and ensure visitor safety.

래프팅은 고무보트를 탄 6~8명이 호흡을 맞추어 계곡의 급류를 헤쳐나가는 레포츠이다. 1990년대 들어서 국내에 보급된 래프팅은 이제는 기업체 연수나 학교, 단체의 야외훈련 프로그램으로 인기가 상당하다. 특히 우리나라에서 3대 래프팅지로 꼽히는 동강(평창, 영월, 정선지역), 한탄강(철원, 연천), 내린천(인제)에서 래프팅을 계획한다면 강의 특징과 주변 정보를 미리 수집해야 효율적이다. 동강래프팅의 대표지점인 강원도 평창 진탄나루는 수하계곡을 지나 마하리에 이른 계곡 물이 동강과 합류되는 곳이다. 대부분의 동강 래프팅은 이곳에서 출발해서 황새여울, 암반여울, 문희마을, 백령 동굴 경유, 칠목령을 거쳐 다시 진탄나루 돌아오기까지 4시간이 소요되는 긴 여정을 가진다. 진탄나루에서 비포장도로로 약 5km를 올라가면 만나는 문희마을은 트래킹 장소로 유명하다.
