육당 최남선 선생께서 호미곶 해 뜨는 광경은 「조선십경」의 하나라고 극찬할 정도로 아름다운 전경을 가진 곳에 바로 호미곶등대가 위치하고 있다. 우리나라 지도의 호랑이 형상 꼬리 부분에서 해를 제일 먼저 맞이하며 한반도 동쪽 땅 끝에 위치하고 있는 우리나라에서 제일 높은 등대로서 1908년 12월 20일 신설 점등하였다. 호미곶등대는 역사적·문화적 가치가 높아 1982년 8월 4일 경상북도 지방문화재 제39호로 지정된 귀중한 문화유산이다.
