📍 Gyeongsangbuk-do Pohang-si Nam-gu Huimang-daero 1040 (Songdo-dong)
Completed in January 2014, Pohang Canal is a waterway connecting Dongbindaegyo Bridge and Hyeongsan River between Songdo-dong and Jukdo 1-dong in Pohang-si, with a total length of 1.3 km and 8 to 10 km when connected to the sea route. Restored from old waterways and ecological environments, it has transformed into a park and new tourist attraction for citizens. The canal is perfect for enjoying romance on cruises along the waterway flowing through the city and is also popular as a walking path. Pohang Canal is not an artificially made waterway but a restoration of a former waterway that naturally recreated the canal's appearance. In the late 1960s, during a national transformative period when Pohang urbanized and Pohang Steel was built, a small waterway connecting Dongbinnaehang and Hyeongsan River was reclaimed to create commercial and residential areas. Recently, this was restored by reopening the waterway and maintaining the surroundings, turning it into Pohang Canal and a recreation area. Alongside are walking paths and bike lanes for citizens to actively enjoy the space. The cooperation of residents and merchants who lived and worked on the waterway played a key role in the restoration, and the names of residents and merchants are inscribed on the wall at the canal's starting point, the Pohang Canal Hall.
