Known as the 'Mountain of Golden Silver Grass,' Myeongseong Mountain is famous as a scenic spot along with the mountain lake located on its slopes. The name Myeongseong Mountain (鳴聲山), meaning 'Crying Mountain,' originates from a legend that King Gung Ye fled here and cried loudly after being defeated by Wang Geon, the founder of the Goryeo dynasty, who was once his subordinate. Throughout the slopes of Myeongseong Mountain, there remain legends of Gung Ye, including Gungyebong Peak, Paejugol where Gung Ye escaped, and Mangmubong Peak, named as the place where Gung Ye watched for pursuing soldiers of Wang Geon. Stretching across Pocheon in Gyeonggi Province and Cheorwon in Gangwon Province, Myeongseong Mountain features many scenic spots such as Gungye King's Cave, Jain Temple, Chaekbawi Rock, and Deungnyong Waterfall. Especially, the ridge connected to the summit forms a silver grass community, and Pocheon City holds a Silver Grass Festival annually on the second weekend of October.
Pocheon is the starting point. Pocheon Intercity Bus Terminal (☎031-532-5217) operates buses every 10 minutes from Pocheon to Dongsong (Sanjeong Lake) and every 30 minutes from Uncheon to Sanjeong Lake. Routes: ① Seoul - National Road 43 - Pocheon-eup - turn left at Pocheon Yeongbuk-myeon - Provincial Road 78 - Sanjeong Lake ② Seoul - National Road 47 - Pocheon-gun Ildong-myeon - turn right at Jangam-ri, Idong-myeon - Provincial Road 78 - Sanjeong Lake
