Introduction

근암서원은 조선시대 명현인 우암 홍언충, 한음 이덕형, 사담 김홍민, 목재 홍여하, 활재 이구, 식산 이만부, 청대 권상일 등 칠현을 배향하는 서원이다. 1544년(중종 39)에 근암서당으로 설립되었다가 이후 1669년(현종 10)에 근암서원으로 개칭하였다. 1868년(고종 5) 서원철폐령에 의해 훼철되었으며, 1982년 지역의 유림과 배향인물의 후손들에 의해 사당과 강당이 중건된 바 있다. 2011년 지역 유림과 시민들의 염원을 담다 사당, 강당, 동재, 서재 등 모두 10동의 건물이 근암서원의 옛 모습으로 복설되었다.
