The name Jijeon is said to come from this place having been abundant in jicho (芝草) since long ago. The exact formation period of the village is unknown, but the many old zelkova trees along the Namdaecheon River beside the village hint at its history. The oldest is about 320 years old, and the fact that these trees stand below the embankment suggests the embankment was built to prevent the Namdaecheon from flooding into the village before the trees were planted in their current location. The Sobaeksan mountain range extends behind the village, and the Namdaecheon River flowing from the mountain behind the village and passing along its left side boasts excellent scenery, playing a role as a summer tourist attraction. The village consists of four main clusters, embodying the traditional spatial structure of Korean villages and maintaining the typical appearance of farmhouses mainly composed of renovated tile-roofed houses. The walls can be divided into those serving the original function of marking property boundaries and those functioning as exterior walls, with most walls in this village still fulfilling their original role. Most walls are made of earth and natural stones mixed and laid in a flat stacking method, creating visual continuity; the roofing of the walls is made of cement tiles rather than traditional Korean tiles. Overall, the traditional houses, Namdaecheon River, old trees, and the persimmon trees planted throughout the village create a picturesque scene, and the walls harmonizing with these elements represent a typical form of a mountain village, producing a cozy atmosphere.

Gwaneumsa is a branch temple of Geumsansa, the main temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism's 17th district, located at the foot of Baegunsan in Muju-gun. The temple name Gwaneumsa originated in 1958 when the monk Ansim hung the Gwaneumsa nameplate. The main hall, Beopbojeon, is a double-eaved octagonal roof building with three bays in front and two bays on the side, beside which are the monks' quarters Mokwoosil and the guest house. Beopbojeon houses a wooden statue of Avalokitesvara from the late Joseon period, relocated in 1974 by monks Gwanjeong and Seonghyorye from Boseoksa in Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, along with old books and paintings of Shinjungdo and Sansindo from 1942. The wooden Avalokitesvara statue in Beopbojeon is a tangible cultural asset and is a valuable resource for the study of late Joseon Buddhist sculpture styles from the late 17th to early 18th century.
