Samgang Seowon is a Confucian academy located in Min's Oujeong (Five Friends Pavilion) by the Nakdong River, enshrining five brothers who were scholars during the reigns of Yeonsangun and Jungjong: Min Guryeong, Min Guso, Min Guyeon, Min Guju, and Min Guseo. Around 1510 (Jungjong 5), Min Guryeong, a disciple of Kim Jongjik during the Joseon period, built a pavilion at the site of Samrangru and studied with his brothers, fostering scholarly practice and brotherly affection noted throughout the local community. In 1547 (Myeongjong 2), Governor Im Hosin of Gyeongsang-do visited, confirmed their reputation, recommended their service to the court, and inscribed the plaque Oujeong. In 1563 (Myeongjong 18), local scholars constructed Ousa shrine inside the pavilion to jointly honor the five Min scholars' brotherly affection and virtue, erecting a historical monument on site. The shrine was later renamed Samgangsa and promoted to Samgang Seowon, enhancing its ritual dignity. The pavilion and shrine were burned during the Imjin War but restored by descendants, undergoing multiple cycles of decline and revival until demolition under the 1868 Seowon Abolition Order. In 1897 (Gojong 34), descendants Min Youngji and Min Youngha rebuilt a large house on the shrine site, preserving the Oujeong plaque. Partial reconstruction occurred in 1904, and in 1979, fourteenth-generation descendant Min Byeongtae led efforts to expand the pavilion and rebuild the shrine, with local scholars installing the Samgang Seowon plaque and conducting ritual ceremonies under their supervision.
