[The mountain behind the Jeong Yeo-rip incident manipulated by Song Ik-pil] It is the highest peak of the Geumnam Jeongmaek range and the highest inland peak in Jeollabuk-do. Its original name was Gujeolsan, but during the mid-Joseon period, it was renamed Unjangsan after the courtesy name (ja) of Song Ik-pil, a behind-the-scenes power figure of the Westerners faction. Song Ik-pil was the mastermind behind the Gichuk Ok-sa incident, in which Jeong Yeo-rip and about a thousand of his followers (mostly scholars from Jeollabuk-do) were killed. It seems the mountain's name was changed as part of this event. On the summit, there are the western and eastern peaks. Below the western peak is Oseongdae, where Song Ik-pil stayed while in hiding after his father, who was a commoner falsely accused of plotting rebellion and rose to a junior third rank, was demoted back to commoner status. From there, he appears to have completed the conspiracy to implicate Jeong Yeo-rip of Jukdo, which was clearly visible. The most outstanding part on the east side of the mountain is Gubongsan, which shares the same pronunciation as Song Ik-pil's pen name.
