한국도로공사수목원은 호남고속도로 순천 기점 170㎞ 지점에 있다. 규모는 34만㎡이고 3,410종의 수목유전자원을 보유하고 있다. 한국도로공사에서 운영하는 수목원은 고속도로를 건설하면서 훼손된 자연환경 복구를 위해 수목을 공급하고 다양한 식물종을 모아 자연학습장으로 활용하고 있으며 식물의 보존, 증식, 보급과 자생식물의 개발에 관한 연구를 수행하고 있다. 한국도로공사수목원에서 보유하고 있는 식물은 주로 ‘과’단위로 식재되어 있으며 특히 일반수목원, 암석원, 약초원, 습지원, 들풀원, 장미원, 무궁화원, 죽림원, 교재원, 남부수종원, 유리온실, 계류원으로 구획되어 관찰이 편리하다.
