Jeonjucheon is a river that flows through Jeonju City, joining Samcheon and flowing into Mangyeong River, with a total length of 41.5 km, making it the longest among the six rivers flowing in Jeonju. Until the late 1990s, Jeonjucheon was polluted by domestic sewage, waste water, and concrete embankments, with water quality rated at levels 4 to 5. However, through the Jeonjucheon natural ecological river restoration project in 1998, it transformed into a river with level 1 water quality. In Jeonjucheon, you can find fish such as shiri, galgyeoni, and beodeulchi that live only in level 1 water, as well as natural monuments like otters and mandarin ducks, along with endangered species such as the leopard cat and the white-naped crane. Jeonjucheon, home to various living creatures, was selected as an excellent example of natural river purification by the Ministry of Environment and recognized as a model case by several local governments. Walking paths and bicycle lanes have been created along the waterway, making it a popular resting and exercise space for Jeonju citizens. The cherry blossom paths in spring and the clusters of silver grass in autumn spread out like a picture, attracting continuous visitors. Especially, the Jeonjucheon bicycle path is separated from the pedestrian path and free of obstacles, making it perfect to enjoy cycling while appreciating the scenery. There are many spots to stop and visit along the way, including Hanok Village, Nambu Night Market, Namcheon Bridge, Cheongyeonru, the charming stepping stones crossing Jeonjucheon, Hanbyeokdang, and Hanbyeokgul. Also, the 'Kkotssingi' public bicycle rental stations are installed in various locations, allowing affordable and unlimited-time bicycle rentals for riding enjoyment.
