Mochungsa Shrine, located within Sarabong Park in Geonip-dong, Jeju-si, was established on January 11, 1977, through donations from 170,000 residents of both inland and island areas. The shrine was named Mochungsa, meaning to honor the loyal spirits of the martyrs who died for the country's independence during the Japanese colonial period. There are three tall towers at Mochungsa Shrine. At the front entrance is the Memorial Tower for the Uibyeong Resistance Movement; to its left stands the Monument to Patriotic Martyr Jo Bong-ho, and to the right is the Kim Mandeok Halmae Memorial Tower. A beautifully maintained forest path surrounds these towers. It is recommended as a walking course where villagers and tourists can reflect on Jeju's history and rest.
Sarabong Park is a low hill located at Dongmun Rotary in Jeju City. The entire Sarabong is developed as a park, serving not only as a place for Jeju citizens to take walks or exercise but also enhancing the enjoyment of tourists climbing the oreum. Sabong Nakjo refers to the sunset viewed from Sarabong, and the sunset here is one of the twelve scenic views of Yeongju (the old name of Jeju), comparable to Seongsan Sunrise. Facing the sea to the north and Hallasan Mountain to the south, this place is popular among both Jeju residents and tourists. On the way to the park from the Sarabong Entrance bus stop is Mochungsa, and to the east of Sarabong lies Byeoldobong, where there is a paragliding launching site. At the foot is Udang Library, and the route from here around the back of Sarabong passing Jeju Port and then to Tap-dong is a famous driving course. In the afternoon, climbing Sarabong for exercise and a walk while enjoying the sunset over the sea and the emerging city lights allows you to experience the beauty of nature and the city at once. Not only the city lights but also the lights from the harbor offer another unique beauty found only at the seaside.
Sarabon is a oreum (volcanic cone) located along the coast east of Jeju Port. The name Sarabon, meaning fine silk, corresponds to Sabong Nakjo, one of the ten most beautiful sites selected in Yeongju Sipgyeong in Jeju. Sabong Nakjo refers to the red sunset at Sarabon, where you can see the sea dyed red by the sunset from the summit. From the top, the blue sea is visible to the north, the majestic Hallasan to the south, and the unobstructed view of Jeju city below offers a beautiful daytime landscape. The oreum is a horseshoe-shaped crater opening northwest, a parasitic volcano composed of red scoria and densely covered with pine trees. To the south is Mochungsa, to the east is Byeoldobong forming a mountain range, and the area is designated as a park. Within the park are an octagonal pavilion and a memorial tower for the militia resistance, along with well-equipped facilities such as fitness equipment, drinking fountains, and restrooms, making it a frequently visited oreum by both tourists and residents.
Sanji Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on the northern slope of Sarabong in Jeju. It was first established as an unmanned lighthouse in October 1916 during the Japanese colonial period, changed to a manned lighthouse in March 1917, and a new lighthouse tower was built in December 1999. It is a representative lighthouse of Jeju Island with a history of over 100 years. The name Sanji originates from the place being recorded as Sanjichon in the 'Tamna Sunryeokdo' made during the Joseon Sukjong era. There is also a theory that it was originally Sanjeo and later changed to Sanji. Sanji Lighthouse is popular as a lighthouse exploration site for students due to its excellent surrounding scenery and proximity to the urban area. At sunset, you can also see a beautiful night view with dozens of fishing boats gathered in the sea in front of the lighthouse.
