[Cheongpungmyeongwol, a famous mountain of Jungwon] Woraksan (1094m) has a mountain shape that seems to combine the dazzling beauty of Seoraksan and the grandeur of Jirisan. Its steep cliffs are breathtaking, yet it also offers the gentle comfort of soft ridges. The summit of Woraksan, also called Guksabong, has long been considered a sacred mountain and is referred to as 'Yeongbong.' Standing atop the massive rocky peak of Yeongbong, one can see the scenic Chungju Lake, which reflects the shadow of Woraksan, creating a magnificent view. Along with other beautiful mountains such as Munsubong, Haseolsan, Maedumak, Daemisan, Hwangjeongsan, and Mapaebong, Woraksan was designated as Woraksan National Park in 1984. Between the high peaks flow the Songgye Valley, Yongha Nine Valleys, and Seonam Valley, showcasing the grandeur of the mountain park. Additionally, the park holds many cultural heritages, including the stone Buddha statue at Jungwon Mireuksaji, where Prince Ma-ui and Princess Deokju are said to have consoled their sorrow over the fall of the kingdom, the carved Buddha at Deokju Temple, and Deokju Mountain Fortress, making it a mountain park rich in culture, history, and natural scenery.
