Jecheon has served as a central city for the production and distribution of herbal medicine, representing 30% of the nation's herb production and 80% of astragalus distribution as one of the three major herbal markets dating back to the Joseon Dynasty. To continue this reputation, Jecheon Hanbang Expo Park was established in Jecheon with the concepts of 'Hanbang' (Korean traditional medicine) and 'Well-being.' The park features the Hanbang Life Science Hall, a space to learn about the principles, diagnosis, and treatments of Korean medicine; the International Fermentation Museum, which explains the origins and benefits of fermented foods; an herb garden where visitors can see medicinal herbs year-round; and a Hanbang village herb shop. The park also offers various Hanbang experiences, such as herbal foot care to relax muscles and relieve fatigue, making fragrant herbal shampoo, and crafting herbal soap.
Jecheon Jungang Market is a mid-to-large scale shopping complex-type market offering a variety of items including food, agricultural and marine products, household goods, and repair services, where purchases can be made at affordable prices. Although it is a permanent market, a large periodic market also opens on the 3rd and 8th of every month, making it a great place to explore. Additionally, there is a public parking lot available, allowing visitors to comfortably browse and shop at the market.
Chungcheong-do is also called Hoseo region, meaning 'west of the lake,' where the lake refers to Uirimji. Uirimji is a very old and famous reservoir. As a Chungcheongbuk-do monument, Uirimji was built in the Samhan period and was originally called Imji. It is said that during King Jinheung of Silla’s reign, the musician Ureuk blocked a stream and built a dam, and about 700 years later, local governor Park Uirim rebuilt it more firmly. The reservoir has a lakeside circumference of 1.8 km, a full surface area of 151,470㎡, a storage volume of 6,611,891㎡, and a depth of 8-13m, irrigating 289.4 jeongbo of farmland. Along with Byeokgolje of Gimje and Susanje of Miryang, it is one of the Samhan period water management facilities, with its sluice gate built of earthenware, providing valuable data for studying ancient agricultural technology. Currently, it is a scenic spot in Jecheon, where Yeonghojeong, built in the 7th year of Sunjo (1807), Gyeongholu Pavilion, built in 1948, centuries-old pine and weeping willow trees, and a 30m natural waterfall enhance the landscape.
Located above the surface of Cheongpung Lake, the Jecheon Oksunbong Suspension Bridge, one of the 10 scenic spots of Jecheon, allows visitors to feel Oksunbong most closely with their entire body. It opened on October 22, 2021, and consists of a 222m long, 1.5m wide suspension bridge, a 408m long ecological exploration deck road, and a trekking path made of coir mats, enabling a full tour around the lake and Oksunbong. This place offers both a thrilling sensation when crossing the bridge and healing experiences in nature. It boasts beautiful scenery throughout all four seasons and is also popular as a photo spot. The area is well equipped with hiking trails and observation decks, making it suitable for families, couples, and friends.
Cheongpung Lake Cable Car is a famous spot in Jecheon where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cheongpung Lake. It operates a round-trip 2.3km route from Multaeri in Cheongpung-myeon to the summit of Bibongsan. Traveling at an average speed of 5m/s, it takes about 10 minutes to reach the peak, which is named after a phoenix bird guarding its eggs and taking flight. Bibongsan, located in the center of Cheongpung Lake at an altitude of 531m, offers a spectacular view reminiscent of a sea of countless islands from the summit. It is the first cable car in Korea to operate to the summit, allowing children and elderly visitors to comfortably enjoy the scenic beauty of Cheongpung Lake by cable car.
Cheongpung Lake Tourist Monorail is an experiential monorail created on a 2.6 km section connecting Dogok-ri in Cheongpung-myeon, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, to Bibongsan. Riding the monorail leads to an oak forest where animal models are placed here and there, making it fun to look around. The monorail has a capacity of 6 passengers and travels at a speed of 1 m/sec, reaching the 531 m high summit of Bibongsan in 25 minutes. Due to slight vibrations during the ride, children under 36 months and pregnant women cannot board. Operations are suspended from December to February, the winter season, and also halted in case of bad weather during the open period.
