The Zelkova tree of Bongdeok-ri, Jangsu, growing on the mountain behind Gogeum village, is estimated to be about 500 years old, with a height of 18 meters and a circumference of 6.13 meters at breast height. Villagers maintain the folk custom of holding the Dangsan ritual on the night of the third day of the first lunar month to ward off village disasters, giving the tree folkloric value. It also has high biological conservation value as a tree that has lived under the care and attention of ancestors for many years and has been designated as a natural monument. Yongamsa is a shrine located in Chunsong-ri, Cheoncheon-myeon, Jangsu-gun, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, enshrining the memorial tablets of five Joseon early Confucian scholars including An Seong. Yongamsa is also called Yongam Seowon. It was founded in the 18th year of Sunjo's reign (1818), destroyed in 1871 under Daewon-gun's seowon abolition order, and reconstructed in 1946 on the same site. The complex consists of Oesammun with a plaque reading Sudeokmun, Gyeonghyejae hall with a hipped-and-gabled roof measuring 3 kan front and 2 kan side, Naesammun with a plaque reading Jungjibun, Yongamsa shrine with a gable roof measuring 3 kan front and 2 kan side, Sujiksa, and the old lecture hall. One memorial stele of Yongamsa stands within the grounds. The shrine enshrines the tablets of five figures: Cheongok An Seong from the late Goryeo and early Joseon period, early Joseon scholar Gyeun Yang Seok-ha, late Joseon scholar Yang Sim-heon Yang Seong-rin, calligrapher Hwa-eum Kim Young-gap, and filial son Suudang Han In-gi. An Seong served as governor of Gangwon-do and Left Chancellor during King Taejong's reign, was registered as a clean official, and his bon-gwan is Gwangju, with courtesy name Ilsam, pen name Cheongok, and posthumous title Sagan. Yang Seong-rin, from Gyenam-myeon, Jangsu-gun, abandoned office to devote himself to scholarship and nurturing students at Jangsu Hyanggyo; his bon-gwan is Namwon, courtesy name Sijing, pen name Yang Sim-heon. He built Yangsajae and Samajae at Jangsu Hyanggyo and restored Heunghakdang in Ucheon village, Huayang-ri, Gyenam-myeon, producing four civil service examination passers. The ancestral rites at Yongamsa are held on the 12th day of the 9th lunar month. Nearby are Chimnyeongsanseong, Jangsu Bongdeok-ri Zelkova tree, and the Geumnam-gun Jeongchungsin Yeongjeonggak.
